Why Ayurveda?

For the past three years, since I began my studies of Ayurveda, I have had countless people comment, "I didn't think this would be something you would do."

Ayurveda is not very well known in North America, but has been the system of medicine in India and the surrounding regions for thousands of years. Because it is a sister science to yoga, and yoga can take on many shapes in the western culture, I think Ayurveda can be perceived as a mystical "out there" pseudoscience, and in my opinion that couldn't be further from the truth. Anyone who knows me also knows that I'm a logical scientist at heart (I've been an accountant for almost 30 years - can't get much more logical than that!). I wouldn't study and promote something unless I absolutely believed in it.

I have seen the healing power of Ayurveda in action, not just within myself, but within others who have trusted me to guide them through the process. Monkey minds have calmed down, long time digestive issues have improved, and bodies have moved towards their natural state of balance.

As I often say, "It's not rocket science." Ayurveda aligns itself with the systems of nature, and a lot of what I teach is what people already know, but they have just forgotten, or it has been buried deep below the chaos that often resides in our minds. We hear it all the time from the mainstream:

"Spend time in nature."

"A healthy gut biome is critical to our health."

"Eat well and move your body."

These days, however, we are bombarded from every direction with tips and tricks for optimal health. Eat this way, eat that way, do steady state cardio, do HIIT workouts, lift light weights, lift heavy weights, spend time in the sun, don't spend time in the sun. It can truly become very confusing and it's not surprising that so many people just give up.

The exceptional thing about Ayurveda is that it takes the uniqueness of the individual, combined with the uniqueness of their imbalances, and suggests unique medicines specifically for those imbalances. Three different people might have digestive issues, for example, and these three people may be given three different treatment plans.

And what is great about Ayurveda is that it works WITH other healing modalities. We work WITH your doctor's recommendations, not against them. We work WITH your massage therapist, your acupuncturist, your reiki master, to provide a treatment plan that works for YOU.

I believe in this healing science so much that my goal is to reach as many people as possible so that they can live healthy, balanced lives. I hope that you will come along for the ride!
